Friends Shop

The Friends shop sells a range of gifts and souvenirs as well as being a point of contact between the general public and the Winter Gardens restoration project. If you can spare a few hours to join the team of volunteers who staff the shop, especially on weekdays (Tuesday to Friday) or Saturdays, please contact Evelyn (see Contacts below).

Sponsor a Plank

You can still contribute to the theatre’s floor fund by sponsoring a plank. Planks cost £10 carrying up to 2 names or £20 for a whole family. Names are kept in a register of sponsors and you receive a certificate as acknowledgement. Planks can be sponsored at the Friends shop.

Theatre Tours

Public tours of the theatre are run on Sunday afternoons. The tour includes the front of house areas, the view across Morecambe Bay from the open air balcony, a climb to the top of the gods, a chance to practise your royal wave from one of the boxes and the opportunity to get a performer’s eye view from the stage. Places on the tours cost £3 per head (£6 for families) and are bookable at the Friends shop. Tours for groups at other times are also available by prior arrangement.

Newsletter

The article in the last issue about Julie Andrews at the Winter Gardens proved very timely because it was followed a couple of weeks later by the publication of Julie’s autobiography Home: a Memoir of my Early Years covering the years up to 1963 and her flight to Hollywood to film Mary Poppins. The book is priced £18.99 and published by Weidenfeld.

The Friends of the Winter Gardens Newsletter is compiled by Peter Wade. Articles, memories and other contributions from members are welcome. Please send them to Peter at 24 Manor Grove, Morecambe, Lancs, LA3 1JA or email to p.wade@lancaster.ac.uk (next issue due out before Christmas).
